Hello, My name is Jake. As a child, I have always had the strangest interest, whether it was antennas on houses, or how a sump pump in a basement works. Those weird interest have always inspired me to ask vital questions. And as I grew older, those questions turned to research which then turned to answers. As a child I always thought to myself "how exactly is weather work?".
Still as a teen, I ask myself "How does weather work?". I continue to ask and research. By now I have more knowledge than the typical human on weather as a topic, Not exactly a meteorologist level but for a 16 year old, I have a great understanding on how rain forms, or what a watch, advisory, or warning is. I can tell you what a velocity radar is, or what the dew point means. I have interest in the equipment a meteorologist may use, Such as an anemometer, or barometer. And another hobby i have taken into my intrest is Computers Technology and radio communication as a whole. As a Junior in Highschool, I have taken simple courses, As I do have AdHd which sadly is qualified as a "learning Disability". But as an eleventh grader i have taken a college course, which is Informational Technology, Which for me is rather easy, as I have a huge interest in Technology. At age 13 i had 4 servers Where I successfully set up and ran a domain (if you don't understand what a domain is, don't worry). I took a break from my servers for about a year, where I would camp in a trailer up north with my grandmother, who Enjoyed Thrift shopping in Caseville Michigan. Where we walked around and looked at the old technology. Nothing was really intriguing. She dragged me around in the shoe area, where i found something where it didn't belong. It was a weather radio, which I haven't owned one since I was 7, Priced at a whopping 3 dollars, I knew it would be mine that day. I brought it back to her trailer, Where i soon listened to the weather radio, the voice was similar as is every weather radio voice in the United states, But from old memories, I remember when I was 6 or 7, my weather radio went off while my dad was on the phone, it was an OLD radio shack radio my mother found at a garage sale for 1 or 2 dollars. That day my mother left because my cousin was in the process of being born. It was september 22, 2005 at around 5:50 she left, and the alarm went off for a severe thunderstorm warning for my county. That was the last time I remember that weather radio, where it is, I have no clue, wish I had it still. But back to the weather radio story. Their was just something, about weather radio's that brought my interest back into weather. Jump ahead about 2 or 4 years, im 16 now, I have a live stream on the internet for detroit's weather radio. I have forecasting software that is amazing, the instant the NWS issues a warning, I get notified. my pal Tyler who lives roughly 3.5 miles away will get a ring on a walkie talkie from me, where we both relay our weather conditions and what is going on by us. I started a page on facebook, that only had a good 40 people who liked it and about 3 or 4 people who listen to the forecasts. Whether it is 1 person or 100 people. If I am able to help out 1 person with a forecast, I feel that my day was well spent. I applied to a internship with the national weather service by my house, although I never got a response, assuming that i did not get the position, likely because of my grades or possibly because of a requirement, Instead of getting discouraged i realised that I learned how to write a resume, and how to apply for a job, and still have hopes in getting into a meteorology program, whether its at channel 7 news or at the national weather service. I have great hopes in becoming a meteorologist, or working with metrology equipment on day. Thank you for reading my short autobiography on myself. Jake Sketch. Ameature Meteorologist for now.
